5th Anniversary of the Stroke
Nearly 5 years ago, I suffered a stroke that left me with numbness and lack of coordination of my right hand and arm. For awhile, I could not speak normally, and I couldn't say my husband's name. With time and occupational and massage therapy, sensation began to return. My speech cleared up within the month. I relearned how to brush my teeth and hair, how to butter toast, how to handle a fork. I used a speech program on the computer for several months, because my right hand could not type. I am very grateful for the lessons I learned from this experience. After 5 years, a person is considered to be at no increased risk of having another CVA (cerebrovascular accident). That's my upcoming milestone!
The purpose of the meme is to get to know everyone who participates a little bit better every Thursday. Visiting fellow Thirteeners is encouraged! All that needlepoint is fantastic ! I love the texture of the patterns due to the different points... Especially the singing santa !
Do you design them yourself, or do you get charts/kits?
Thanks for the compliment!
They are handpainted (in color) canvases. However, the fibers, stitches and shades are selected by the stitcher. The singing Santa is from a chart - the outlines of the shapes are drawn on the canvas and the stitches are described in the charting guide. They are LOADS of fun to do!
do you have any interesting brands and designers? over here needle point is only half stitches !!!
Yes! Try nordicneedle.com. There are others. There are others, too. I'll check and get back to you!
Thank you for posting in my blog. I am glad to see someone in Project Spectrum who is not knitting. Several of my friends knit (and even spin and sell stitch markers!), but I don't. Your work is LOVELY. I have many books of intricate stitches (and even a sample stitch pumpkin that is an old time WIP), but with the Pineapple Fish I felt that complex stitches would mute the effect of the varigated threads. I spend a lot of time placing the different variation in a non-pattern so it looks more like sunlight shining on the sea.
Looks like I will need to start up some of my Melissa Shirley Halloweentown needlepoint. There is more opportunity there for interesting stitches. Meanwhile there are also a few cross stitch works that need finishing.
